I bought my first Eze-Lap products in the late Seventies and I have used them almost continuously since that time. I’m pretty sure they will last forever, but I’ve lost a couple and given others away. I left the last one in the car I traded in.
These industrial-diamond encrusted instruments are nearly fool-proof and make sharpening knives extraordinarily simple. There is a technique to be learned, but it’s easy to master.
One of the great things about this instrument is that there is virtually no chance that you will grind the blade down as can be done with a whetstone, thus diminishing the life of the knife. The grinding effect takes place at the microscopic edge.
No one who owns a knife should be without one of these. It is not a gimmick.
This size is best for pocket-style knives. Eze-Lap makes sharpeners that are as large as a kitchen steel, although the two are used in a completely different way, and are well suited for culinary knives.

EZE-LAP is a great tool for keeping a fine edge on a pocket knife. I once shaved with my Swiss army knife on a bet. The EZE-LAP kept it sharp enough to do so. This is my second EZE-LAP sharpener. I had the last one for decades and misplaced it during my last move. The one that arrived from Amazon today is identical to my old one and I’m confident it will last as long as I’ll need it. My old one had a thick leather sheath that I used as a strop after sharpening a blade. The sheath that came with the new one is a thick rubber-like synthetic. It will probably work well as a strop but I preferred the leather sheath.
