Question by maizieella: I was curious if I could get a different shape diamond for my wedding ring?
I have a marquise diamond now. I really don’t want a different ring, I just don’t like marquise diamonds very much. Cost was an issue when my husband and I got married so we kinda settled with what we bought. I thought about having my ring melted down, but I wanted to see all my options first.

you could, but very expensive. You must remove the dimond ring, they re-shape it, they put it back in a different base. Once the dimond is off, it wont go back to the way it used to be, the quality that is.

you probably could have another diamond re-set in the ring, i mean, really anything is possible, it is just a matter of how much you are wanting to spend on it…but i would say yes, that is a realistic thing to consider, but really your best bet is to just go and find the best goldsmith you can and see what they say…good luck!

If you melt down your metal – be prepared to get a minimum for scrap. Check out http://www.kitco.com. This site will give you the going rate of platinum or gold. If you change the shape of your diamond, you may have to change the head or style of your ring. Not all settings which accommodate a Marquise will look as attractive holding a square or a round diamond. Many people back in the day really liked the Marquise. The shine and brilliance you can get from a Round Brilliant is much greater than you can find in a Marquise. Marquise is a less requested diamond, but doesn’t mean it is less attractive. It simply doesn’t retain as much light and fire as a round brilliant. Going for a new diamond shape after many years is common and usual. So why not? Go for it!

    Good Luck!
