Question by dreamwhip: How do i locate GI REPORT on emerald cut diamond purchased@neiman marcus approximately 1965-1970,?
My birth father, now deceased purchased my mother’s engagement ring at neiman Marcus, either in dallas texas or new york, aprroximate year 1965-1969. it is a 5 caret flawless diamond, emerald cut, with baugettes, set in platinum. i have made a grave error and took it to have appraised for insurance purposes. when i went to pick up the ring i was told that it is of far less clarity and color than would be substaniated in the original GI report. Neiman marcus would not even sell the quality of diamon below a “F” in color and this was a “D: I was FOOLISH and stupid for leaving such an expensive, treasured family heirloom with an unkniwm jewler, who obviously has switched the diamonds on me. he is still attemting to return a five caret diamon but of I color and week clarity. i did not accept the diamond and filed a police report (this is the only time it has ever been off my mother’s hand), but i desperately need to find a way to prove proof of purchase from neiman marcus or obtain the g
Please do not be obnoxious and offer answes that are of no hekp. This diamond was purchased at Neiman Marcus, they sold only Harry Wnston Diamnonds and those of the same calibur. The Diamond store located in Neimans at the time did not sell any diamonds with a color less than “F” or clarity -1 of vvs. This Diamond was flawless, you are wrong, there are flawlwess diamonds, yes the larger the stone the more apt it is to have blemishes. This particuliar diamond was rate IF, which is “almost Flawless” and on the origininal GI report it stated, no blemishes or imperpefections seen by the one performing the te report, b/c it is objective and subject to a plus or minus to a certain degree. He rated it IF, which means “almost flawless” MY MOM DID HAVE AN APPRAISAL, BUT IT WAS 40 YEARS AGO. My father passed away in 1970, my mother -in her last days of ennd stage cancer has no idea where to locate the report. I wanted to have it appraised before wearing it b/c I KNOW THE VALUE & AK SCARED. The
Then ring was to be sent off by the jewler to get a GI report, therefore I coud not WAIT FOR IT. I admit i acted negligently. Fortunatley, the police took my repport as the know my family well and I am a prosecutor, but I stillwould like to know if anyone has any info that would help me locate inforation on a diamond if i know the exact place it was puchased. I thought this ws a place to seek answers, not ridicule. Maybe i don’t deserve a 5ct ring, i am 40 years old and i screwed up, but my mother is dying and I intend to do all i can to locate what i need and one day pass the ring to my own daughter. So please helpfu answers only. my mom is in hospice and times are stressful enough. Thank you

first, if it was a 5ct -no such thing as flawless- the bigger the stone the more imperfections you see -but anyway, you should have had an appraisal to begin with and would go on that. where is that? this sounds weird. I think that you will not be able to obtain a receipt from so long ago. and, it will be hard to prove that he switched anything without a former appraisal.
plus anyone with a 5ct would have asked to watch the appraisal being done. did you not stay and watch? maybe you don’t deserve to have a 5ct ring if you don’t know how to treat one!
sorry!
